1935 Triple Crown Winner Omaha: The Belair Bullet
While the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve has the Longines Kentucky Oaks, the Preakness Stakes has the George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. The 3-year-old filly stakes at Pimlico may not be a Grade 1 stakes like the Oaks, but this year’s edition offers a well-matched field that should account for an interesting race to wager on and watch.
1. Liam in the Dust (6-1 morning-line odds): Rebounded last time with a second after a disappointing try in a stakes. Only win came in her debut but if she can take a step forward after her last start, she could be a contender.
JOCKEY: John Velazquez; TRAINER: Rodolphe Brisset
2. Princess Aliyah (15-1): Never fired in the Eight Belles Stakes Presented by Sysco at seven furlongs last time out. If she reverts to her performance before that in lesser company, she will be a threat.
JOCKEY: Nik Juarez; TRAINER: D. Wayne Lukas
3. Margie’s Intention (3-1): Switches to Brad Cox’s barn after a pair of runner-up finishes in Louisiana-bred stakes. With some expected improvement, she can’t be ignored.
JOCKEY: Flavien Prat; TRAINER: Brad Cox
4. Runnin N Gunnin (5-2): Has not raced since late March when she was third in the Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes. She recorded a big boost in her speed figures and was given some time off after the race. Can be a main contender if she duplicates that effort.
JOCKEY: Jose Ortiz; TRAINER: Steve Asmussen
5. Kinzie Queen (10-1): Comes off a sharp allowance win but has yet to show she can be a factor in a graded stakes.
JOCKEY: Junior Alvarado; TRAINER: Greg Compton
6. Paris Lily (8-1): Won in front-running fashion in her last start, which came in the slop. Rain or shine, she looms a major factor in a race without much early speed.
JOCKEY: Joel Rosario; TRAINER: Brendan Walsh
7. Reply (8-1): Staged a strong rally to finish second in the prep for this stakes at Laurel Park, the Weber City Miss Stakes. Gets some added distance here which should help her cause and makes her an intriguing possibility.
JOCKEY: Irad Ortiz Jr.; TRAINER: Brittany Russell
8. Amarth (4-1): Was fifth in the Grade 1 Central Bank Ashland Stakes after a runner-up finish in the Busher Stakes. She has been working nicely since the Ashland and seems like a player in a competitive field.
JOCKEY: Luis Saez; TRAINER: Eddie Kenneally
9. Moon Cache (20-1): Was a close third in the Weber City Miss Stakes and could land in the exotics at a nice price.
JOCKEY: Raul Mena; TRAINER: Michael Gorham
