Michael E. Gorham

Trainer Mike Gorham, a Massachusetts native, grew up going to Suffolk Downs with his father and his siblings and fell in love with horse racing at an early age. He got his foot in the door working as an assistant to trainer Bruce Smith before going out on his own in 1985, earning his first victory at his hometown racetrack.

Gorham eventually shifted his operation from Suffolk to the Mid-Atlantic area and settled in at Delaware Park, where he has been based for more than 25 years. Gorham set a career-high for wins in 2006 with 108 and a career-best for purse earnings in 2007 with $2,779,016 during a run of 11 straight years from 1999 to 2009 in which his horses eclipsed seven figures in purse earnings. Grade 1 winner Mandy’s Gold and graded stakes winners Trickle of Gold and Adore the Gold are three of his top runners.

In 2025, Gorham has multiple promising 3-year-olds who competed on the Triple Crown trail in Pay Billy and Omaha Omaha.
