Margie's Intention

Louisiana-bred Margie’s Intention finished fourth in her debut sprinting at Fair Grounds in December 2024, but won when stretched out to a mile in her 3-year-old debut Jan. 18 at the New Orleans track, relishing a sloppy track and romping by 11 ¾ lengths.

She then won her next start at the same distance and track and subsequently was moved up to stakes company. In two Fair Grounds stakes for state-breds, the Honor A. P. filly finished second both times to Blue Fire, the last coming in the Crescent City Oaks March 22. She was then transferred to the barn of trainer Brad Cox.

After five good starts on her home track and against fellow Louisiana-breds, Margie’s Intention was given a tougher obstacle in her first start for Cox: the Grade 2 George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes facing open company May 16 at Pimlico. She sat in a stalking spot behind early leader Paris Lily on a Pimlico track that had just been saturated with rain by a thunderstorm, and outfinished that game foe in the final strides of the 1 1/8-mile Black-Eyed Susan by three-quarters of a length to score a breakthrough stakes victory.

Margie’s Intention is out of the unraced Into Mischief mare Playful Dancer and is from the family of Grade 1 winner Cat Moves.
