American Derby

Run for 3-year-olds at Arlington Park, the American Derby is held at 1 1/8 miles on the turf. The race was first run in 1994 and was one of the most important races at one time. Calumet Farm has the most wins of any owners with seven while three trainers have won this a race high three times and Eddie Arcaro won this race five times as a jockey. Winners include Modesty, Spokane, Highball, Whirlaway, Citation, Ponder, Hill Prince, Native Dancer, Round Table, Swaps, Tom Rolfe, Buckpasser, Damascus, Forward Pass, Nasty and Bold, Smarten, Crème Fraiche and Willcox Inn.
