Jose Garoffalo Jr. has trained Thoroughbreds for 15 years and will have his first Kentucky Derby starter, Wildcat Red, in 2014. Wildcat Red has won or placed in all of his seven career starts, including a win in the Fountain of Youth (G2) and a game runner-up effort in the Florida Derby (G1).

A native of Venezuela, Garoffalo grew up working with racehorses on a farm owned by his father Jose Garoffolo Sr. He went to trainer school and law school, graduating from both in 1988, but there was never a doubt which profession he would pursue. He came to Florida permanently in 1998 and now trains full time at Gulfstream Park.
