Jockey Mitchell Murrill began his career in 2014 at Delta Downs in Louisiana and over the next half-dozen years built a reputation as a hard-working and improving rider, first at Arlington Park, and then at Fair Grounds during their winter meet. He began riding in Kentucky in 2020 and in spring 2021 had a breakthrough meet at Churchill Downs, where he finished among the leaders in winning percentage.
A native of Mobile, Ala., Murrill was more interested in playing soccer as a teenager but caught the racing bug after he began exercise riding for several trainers in the area.
