Mid-September usually signals a turning point in the North American racing calendar, and that’s true this year as Churchill Downs and Belmont at the Big A (Aqueduct) both kick off early fall meets. The marquee races, however, will occur at Woodbine on Saturday, Sept.

The first full week of racing in September is highlighted by the wrap-up of Del Mar’s summer meet plus big days at both Kentucky Downs and Colonial Downs.

The Labor Day holiday weekend is annually a big one in North American horse racing, marked by the final days of Saratoga Race Course’s summer meet and sometimes by Del Mar’s signature race. That’s the case this year as the Pacific Classic Stakes will be held for the 35th time Saturday, Aug.

A day at the races is only part of the experience that racing fans can enjoy when visiting Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The whole city is centered around Saratoga Race Course’s meet during the summer, and you can also enjoy pastimes such as casino gambling, shopping, nightlife, and of course, loads of great dining while you are in town.
