Dornoch

Dornoch finished second in his first two lifetime races as a 2-year-old including a 6 1/2-furlong maiden race at Saratoga on July 29, 2023, and then in the $200,000 Sapling Stakes going one mile at Monmouth Park on Aug. 26. Dornoch accomplished his maiden win in his third career start which was back versus maidens going 1 1/16 miles at Keeneland on Oct. 14.

Dornoch was back against stakes competition to finish out his juvenile season in the Grade 2 $250,000 Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct on Dec. 2 where he faced a 10-horse field going 1 1/8 miles on a muddy main track as the 8-5 favorite on the tote board. Dornoch went right to the front from the start and carved out solid two-turn fractions under pressure, then lost the lead in mid-stretch to the oncoming closer Sierra Leone until battling back on the rail in deep stretch to prevail by a nose. The Remsen Stakes was an official prep race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, and with his victory Dornoch earned 10 qualifying points for the 2024 Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve.

Dornoch opened his 3-year-old campaign with a start in the Grade 2 $400,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park on March 2, 2024. Originally drawn as a competitive nine-horse field, the Fountain of Youth suffered four scratches to the field which resulted in Dornoch being sent off as the 1-5 favorite on the tote board atop a five-horse field. Dornoch went to the front from the start and was allowed to set a comfortable pace. He led wire-to-wire en route to a 1 3/4-length victory. The Fountain of Youth was a points race on the road to the 2024 Kentucky Derby, and with his victory, Dornoch earned 50 qualifying points for he run for the roses.

In his final prep race for the Kentucky Derby, Dornoch finished fourth in the $1 million Grade 1 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes going 1 1/8 miles at Keeneland on April 6.

Dornoch is a full brother to 2023 Kentucky Derby winner Mage. He was bred in Kentucky by the sire Good Magic out of the mare Puca by Big Brown. He is trained by Danny Gargan.
