Disarm

Disarm broke his maiden at Saratoga in a 2-year-old maiden race on Aug. 6, 2022. He missed the remainder of the 2022 season, however, and made his reutrn to the races on Feb. 19, 2023 for what was his 3-year-old debut in an allowance optional claiming race at Oaklawn Park where he finished second.

Disarm's next start was in the Grade 2 $1 million Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds on March 25.  Disarm rallied from mid-pack in the 12-horse field in the Louisiana Derby and closed for second. The runner-up finish was enough to earn Disarm 40 qualifying points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

Still short of the amount of qualifying points needed to ensure a spot in the starting gate for the Kentucky Derby, Disarm was entered in the final points race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby in the Grade 3 Stonestreet Lexington Stakes at Keeneland on April 15. Needing at least a third-place finish to garner enough points to qualify for the Derby, Disarm did exactly what he needed to do, he finished third in the Lexington, beaten 4 3/4 lengths by the winner First Mission. Third place was worth 6 additional points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, giving Disarm a total of 46 and earning him one of the final spots in the starting gate for the 2023 run for the roses.

Disarm's subsequent start came in the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 6. Sent off as a 27-1 longshot on the tote board in an 18-horse field, Disarm sat far off the pace in 13th place at the first call and raced back in the pack most of the way until rallying in the stretch and passing horses to finish fourth, beaten a total of 4 1/2 lengths in a solid effort.

Disarm was briefly considered for the Preakness Stakes, but owner Ron Winchell and trainer Steve Asmussen decided to give the colt a break and brought him back for the 1 1/8-mile Matt Winn Stakes June 11, which was relocated to Ellis Park after Churchill Downs ended its spring-summer meet early. Disarm went off as the 1.12-1 favorite in the Matt Winn and continued to show he belongs among the best in his division with a gritty half-length win over Verifying.

Disarm's next start was a disappointing fourth-place finish in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga on July 29. Following the Jim Dandy, however, Disarm rebounded in a positive direction with a solid late-running second-place finish in the $1.25 million Grade 1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 26, when he was defeated by only a length by Arcangelo.

Disarm was bred in Kentucky by the sire Gun Runner out of the mare Easy Tap, by Tapit.
