The 2023 Preakness Stakes, the second jewel of Thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown, will be run Saturday, May 20 at Pimlico in its usual spot two weeks after the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.

For the seventh year in a row, America’s Best Racing is challenging some of the brightest minds in horse betting to come up with their top three picks for key races every weekend leading up to the 2023 Triple Crown and then continuing through the 2023 Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The handicappers face off in what we like to call the “Big Race Showdown.”

The 149th running of the $3 million Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve drew a field of 20, plus three also-eligibles which may run if any of the first 20 withdraw by 9 a.m. ET on the morning of Friday, May 5. This is what happened in 2022, allowing eventual upset winner Rich Strike to run.

The $1.25 million, Grade 1 Longines Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs dates back to 1875. The 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-old fillies is as old as the coveted Grade 1 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve and boasts an elite roster of winners.
