Major race days typically offer big fields from start to finish on cards loaded with stakes races and thus present an ideal opportunity to find betting value for a strong opinion.

With all the spring buzz in Thoroughbred racing focused on the Triple Crown, it can be easy to overlook that the new season at Belmont Park is here. The 2023 Belmont Park Spring/Summer meet opens on May 4 and will continue through closing day on Sunday, July 9.

Welcome to Noel Michaels’ Weekend Winners, the place to go for weekend best bets and spot plays from veteran handicapper and tournament-play pioneer Noel Michaels. Check back every week for a couple of highlighted selections designed to help you cash a few bets and make some money.

Gamblers will be treated with massive pools and a wide variety of wagering opportunities on Kentucky Derby week that will begin Saturday, April 29 at Churchill Downs.

New on this year’s wagering menu will be the debut of the $1 rolling Super Hi 5. If no one correctly picks the first five finishers, the bet will carryover to the next race. Previously, the Super Hi 5 was only offered on the final race each card. This will be a traditional Super Hi 5 bet and not a jackpot.

The Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve isn’t the only major horse race taking place at Churchill Downs this spring.
