When it comes to making money when handicapping races and betting on horse racing, it’s all about picking winners. Tordjman – DanonymousMan to those who follow him on Twitter – is one of the brightest young minds in the game.

Each Week, Tordjman will provide readers with his two best bets of the weekend and strategies for how to bet them. Tordjman will keep track of his return on investment (ROI) throughout the year and, as a bonus, he will also provide picks for a selection of the key races on the Triple Crown trail and the road to the Breeders’ Cup. Dan was able to manage a positive ROI for his plays in 2016 but was in the red for 2017. How will he do in 2018? To find out and to play along, come back every week and be sure to follow Tordjman on Twitter.

Laurel Park, Race 6, $100,000 Miracle Wood Stakes, 3 p.m. ET

#5 Wentz: This promising colt adds blinkers for his second start off the layoff, presumably in an effort to get him more focused. If you watch the replay of his last start when he was outrun late by returning runner Still Having Fun (#1), Wentz drifted out in the lane and cost himself. If you take a look at the start of the race, he also bore out after the break, which cost him ground as he pulled himself to the lead. Wentz has a bit of growing up to do but if he breaks cleanly here and settles, he should be pretty tough to catch.

Laurel Park, Race 7, $100,000 Maryland Racing Media Stakes, 3:30 p.m. ET

#10 Miss Inclusive: I have a good feeling about this longshot play in a pretty wide-open stakes race that’s smack in the middle of a phenomenal card at Laurel. There figures to be a decent amount of speed signed up for this one, and Miss Inclusive should enjoy that as a stalking type from her outside post position. She ran a deceptively strong race in stakes company in her most recent start — she was shuffled back before the turn for home and showed some grit while rallying for third. Additionally, she seems to like running at Laurel. Trainer Jason Servis also sends out the race favorite here, Bishop’s Pond (#1). That one is going right to the lead and will ensure a blistering pace for her barn mate — if she’s pressed, Miss Inclusive could very well be charging past her late.
