Dan’s Double of the week, featuring handicapping analysis from America's Best Racing's New York correspondent Dan Tordjman, is brought to you by Horseplayers.com, the official online qualifying site of the Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) and National Horseplayers Championship (NHC). Horseplayers.com offers low-cost feeders every day and BCBC and NHC qualifiers every weekend starting in the spring, and it’s the only site where you can qualify for the $1 million BCBC. It’s free to sign up – click here to get information about registering and how to enter contests.

When it comes to making money when handicapping races and betting on horse racing, it’s all about picking winners. Tordjman – DanonymousMan to those who follow him on Twitter – is one of the brightest young minds in the game.

Each Week, Tordjman will provide readers with his two best bets of the weekend and strategies for how to bet them. Tordjman will keep track of his return on investment (ROI) throughout the year and, as a bonus, he will also provide picks for a selection of the key races on the Triple Crown trail and the road to the Breeders’ Cup. Dan was able to manage a positive ROI for his plays in 2016 but was in the red for 2017. How will he do in 2018? To find out and to play along, come back every week and be sure to follow Tordjman on Twitter.

Gulfstream Park, Race 13, $200,000 Mac Diarmida Stakes, 5:34 p.m. ET

#3 One Go All Go: I’ve been waiting for this horse to catch a race in which he isn’t one of three or four runners who generally find themselves on or near the lead. In his last few, he’s run up against speedsters like Heart to Heart, Shining Copper, and Shakhimat. On Saturday, it should be One Go All Go alone on the lead. And it’s not just the pace edge that has me on this horse, he happens to be in the best form of his life — his last two races represent his highest Equibase and Beyer Speed Figures. Best of all? You’re going to get a huge price.

Gulfstream Park, Race 14, $400,000 Xpressbet.com Fountain of Youth Stakes, 6:09 p.m. ET

Free Drop Billy (Eclipse Sportswire)

#2 Free Drop Billy: Make no mistake, the horse to beat is Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner and last year’s champion 2-year-old male, Good Magic (#6). However, on Saturday he’ll be making his first start since his November triumph at the Breeders’ Cup and, knowing that the ultimate goal is the Kentucky Derby, there’s no need for him to come back totally cranked up for a peak performance here. That said, assuming Good Magic isn’t just THAT much better than the rest of these, Free Drop Billy has all the looks of a horse who might be more prepared to fire a big race. He came back off of a difficult run in Breeders’ Cup to run a very solid second to a more fit Audible in the Grade 2 Holy Bull Stakes last out. What Free Drop Billy showed in that race, aside from taking to the dirt at Gulfstream, is that he’d retained or even improved upon his form last year, which saw him win the Grade 1 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland and come within a neck of Sporting Chance (who ran very well in return two weeks ago in the Southwest Stakes) in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga. Note that among the horses Free Drop Billy beat last year you’ll find recent Risen Star Stakes winner Bravazo.

Strategy on a $50 Budget

$1 trifecta: 2 with 6,7 with ALL ($16)

2018 ROI: -$373
