Retired Major League Baseball player Jayson Werth has found an outlet in horse racing to rediscover the magic of elite competition, and this time he is able to share the thrills with his wife, Julia, and their children thanks to an incredible racehorse named Dornoch.
A World Series champion, Werth reached the pinnacle of baseball on the diamond with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008. He is back at that level in 2024 with Dornoch, a Good Magic colt he owns in partnership with West Paces Racing, R. A. Hill Stable, Belmar Racing and Breeding, and Pine Racing.
Dornoch won the Belmont Stakes, the final jewel of Thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown, in June and $1 million NYRA Bets Haskell Stakes July 20 in back-to-back unforgettable performances befitting a champion. He returned to face a star-studded field in the $1.25 million DraftKings Travers Stakes Aug. 28 at Saratoga Race Course, and America’s Best Racing was there to share the experience of the famed “Mid-Summer” Derby with the Werth family on their journey to the 2024 Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
