Three marquee Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve prep races are coming up Saturday and Sunday, which means there’ll be significant changes to the earnings leaders among horses, jockeys, and trainers racing in North America this time next week. As for the prior weekend, there was relatively little movement, with two stakes races for 3-year-olds at Turfway Park standing out as highlights.

Last Saturday at the northern Kentucky track, Great White jumped onto the Kentucky Derby points leaderboard with a 15.16-1 upset in the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes. The Volatile gelding started his 3-year-old campaign with a fifth-place finish in the Leonatus Stakes at Turfway on Jan. 17 before returning to winning form on Saturday. Totaling $107,440 in 2026 earnings, Great White is now ranked 17th in the 3-year-old male division and 58th overall. He’s also positioned 13th on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard with 20 points, giving trainer John Ennis what could be his second Derby runner after Epic Ride in 2024.

One evening prior at Turfway, Resplendence, a 3-year-old filly by Justify, went gate-to-wire to win the Cincinnati Trophy Stakes at odds of 11.71-1. She is now 15th on the Longines Kentucky Oaks leaderboard with 20 points. Having posted back-to-back wins by a combined winning margin of 8 ¾ lengths, the Paulo Lobo trainee is now fourth in the sophomore filly division with $163,592 in 2026 earnings.

Among jockeys riding in North America, Tyler Gaffalione continues to hold a commanding lead by more than $1 million over Irad Ortiz Jr. in second. Gaffalione brought his total 2026 earnings to $3,992,082 following a six-win week while finishing in the top three in 46% of his races and earning $253,780. Ortiz Jr. now has $2,904,108 in earnings this year after finding the winner’s circle eight times last week and adding $294,250 in earnings to his total. Ramon Vazquez led all jockeys last week by wins (13) and earnings ($537,567). By the end of the week, Vazquez surpassed $1 million in 2026 earnings and now ranks 22nd in the standings. Vazquez also became the 11th rider in history to record 500 wins at Oaklawn Park.

Saffie Joseph Jr. remains on top of the trainer standings for the fourth consecutive week, now with $3,800,110 in 2026 earnings after another solid week including four victories, a 33% win clip and $226,045 in earnings.

North American leaders lists for horses, jockeys, trainers and owners are available on equibase.com and you can filter the data to view by a wide variety of categories including age, sex, surface and race type.
