On Jan. 25, White Abarrio succeeded in his second attempt at winning the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes at Gulfstream Park, his home track. He initially started in the marquee race in 2023 and was unplaced, but this time he won the Pegasus by 6 ¼ lengths, earning a 109 Equibase Speed Figure. The Pegasus was White Abarrio’s seventh career win at Gulfstream, and the eighth time in nine starts he’s finished in the money.
Having bankrolled the winner’s share of a $3 million purse in the Pegasus World Cup, White Abarrio and all his connections are now on top of their respective standings by earnings. White Abarrio now has $1,638,000 in earnings, trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. $2,980,472, and jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. $2,680,235.
Saffie Joseph Jr. had a remarkable Pegasus World Cup Day at Gulfstream, earning three graded stakes victories. In addition having the first- and third-place finishers in the Pegasus World Cup with White Abarrio and Skippylongstocking, he won the TAA Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf Invitational Stakes Presented by SirDavis American Whisky with Be Your Best and the Inside Information Stakes Presented by MyRacehorse with Mystic Lake.
Flavien Prat, who received the 2024 Eclipse Award as Outstanding Jockey on Jan. 23, continues to dominate in the saddle in the first three weeks of the year, scoring eight wins from 15 starts last week with $510,810 in earnings. Prat is winning at a 32% clip in 2025, posting 21 wins from 66 starts and 65% in-the-money finishes. He’s currently ranked fourth in the 2025 standings among North American jockeys with $1,165,880 in earnings.
Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse had a very lucrative day on Jan. 26, scoring four wins from five starts at Gulfstream Park and another win at Oaklawn Park. Jockey Dylan Davis was aboard for three of those victories at Gulfstream Park, where Casse and Davis win at a 20% clip together. Casse now sits fifth in the North American trainer standings with 19 wins and $1,300,064 in earnings.
