The dust has settled on the 43rd Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland Race Course, and results from the event have drastically changed the Equibase leaderboard tabulating 2026 North American earnings for horses, jockeys, and trainers.

Let’s start with jockeys. Flavien Prat, the reigning Eclipse Award winner for the past two years, was named this year’s outstanding rider at the Breeders’ Cup, winning the 2026 Bill Shoemaker Award. Prat rode three winners in the event Oct. 30-31. On Friday, he piloted Hughes to victory in the FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Presented by TAA, and he returned on Saturday to win the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint with Ways and Means and the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile aboard Further Ado.

Prat ended the Breeders’ Cup with a 27% winning percentage from 11 mounts and a 55% top-three rate. More importantly, Prat pushed his 2026 North American earnings to $42,310,519, becoming the first jockey in history to reach that figure. With nearly two months remaining in the year, Prat has already surpassed Irad Ortiz Jr.’s single-season North American earnings record in 2025 by almost $2 million.

Jockey Jose Ortiz, who has had a tremendous year with wins in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, picked up two Breeders’ Cup wins over the weekend in the Maker’s Mark Filly & Mare Turf aboard Kathynmarissa and the Longines Distaff with Nitrogen. Amassing $3,198,445 in earnings last week, Ortiz now has $41,823,314 (through Nov. 3), which also surpassed his brother Irad’s single season record last year. Jose is second in the North American standings this year, more than $13 million ahead of Irad (who is currently sidelined) in third.

2025 Horse of the Year Sovereignty made his final career start a winning one with a 1 ¾-length victory in the $7 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic for owner-breeder Godolphin, trainer Bill Mott, and jockey Junior Alvarado. By doing so, he joins American Pharoah as the only other horse in history to win the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic. With $4,681,250 in 2026 earnings, Sovereignty moved into first among older males in 2026 North American earnings and second overall behind this year’s Derby and Belmont winner Golden Tempo, who remains in first by a little more than $200,000. Sovereignty retires ranked 16th all-time among racehorses that made at least one start in North America based on career earnings, boasting a $10,516,550 bankroll.

Following the results of the Classic, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum’s Godolphin has pulled away in the owner standings with $13,919,601 for the year, more than $4 million ahead of Klaravich Stables (owner of Filly & Mare Sprint winner Ways and Means) in second. Godolphin had five Breeders' Cup starts, finishing in the top three with three horses, including the Classic, which Sovereignty won and Knightsbridge finished third in.

Nitrogen (Eclipse Sportswire)

There is also a new leader in the older female division following the Breeders’ Cup. Nitrogen, a 4-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly, drew clear to win the Distaff by two lengths for trainer Mark Casse. Nitrogen, the reigning Eclipse Award champion 3-year-old filly, finished second in last year’s Distaff. Having amassed $2,061,750 in 2026 earnings, Nitrogen moved into eighth on the overall leaderboard in addition to first among all older females.

In the juvenile categories, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Hughes moved into the top spot among 2-year-old males while Emphatic, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, did the same in the 2-year-old filly division.

Hughes, an Into Mischief colt, remained a perfect 5-for-5 with his 2 ¼ length in the Juvenile. Trained by Bob Baffert, Hughes has won those five races by a combined margin of 26 ¾ lengths. Hughes has earned $1,520,000 in earnings, good for 18th on the overall leaderboard in addition to first in his division.

Emphatic, a Nyquist filly bred in Pennsylvania, is also undefeated, improving to 4-for-4 in the Juvenile Fillies by a combined margin of 14 ¾ lengths. Trained by Brendan Walsh, Emphatic is first among 2-year-old fillies and 21st overall with $1,444,250 in earnings.

In the trainer standings, Brad Cox remains in first after the Breeders’ Cup by more than $3 million ahead of Mark Casse in second. Cox had one Breeders’ Cup win over the weekend with Further Ado and pushed his 2026 North American earnings to $29,369,485. Casse also had one Breeders’ Cup win with Nitrogen in the Distaff and pushed his yearly earnings to $26,209,555.
