Zenyatta thrilled the fans at Oaklawn Park April 9, 2010, with a 4 1/4-length runaway victory in the Apple Blossom Invitational Stakes for her 16th consecutive win. (Eclipse Sportswire)
Superstar Zenyatta was shipped to Hot Springs, Ark., for the 2010 Apple Blossom Invitational Stakes with a perfect record of 15 wins in as many starts. The 2010 Apple Blossom at Oaklawn Park was scheduled to be the Street Cry mare’s second career start on dirt and her second race outside of California. Zenyatta had traveled to Oaklawn in 2008 and won that year's Apple Blossom by 4 ½ lengths in her fourth career start, but otherwise had raced exclusively on synthetic surfaces at tracks in the Golden State.
The 2008 and 2009 champion older female attracted a terrific crowd for the feature race that Friday and she did not disappoint with a last-to-first, 4 ¼-length victory under Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith.
Eclipse Sportswire was on hand to capture the magic leading up to and after her Apple Blossom victory. Relive the 2010 Apple Blossom with this fantastic slideshow from Eclipse.
