all in Breeders' Cup

The $6 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic is the signature race at the 2020 World Championships, which will be held Nov. 6-7 at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky. The 1 1/4-mile race will be televised live Nov. 7 on NBC with a scheduled post time of 5:13 p.m. ET.

In a year that has been anything but normal, one thing we can count on is a strong international presence at this year’s Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Keeneland Race Course. Two hundred and one horses were pre-entered for this year’s event with 39 making the trip from outside North America.

The Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic is the marquee race at a championship event and annually attracts many of the best racehorses in training. This year is no different, with a competitive field of older horses, 3-year-olds, and potentially a filly in Swiss Skydiver lining up in the Nov.

One-mile races on the grass are, in my opinion, the best races in the sport of Thoroughbred racing for betting and pure enjoyment. It is a distance and surface that draws sprinters stretching out, true milers, and more stamina-oriented racehorses cutting back in distance and often seeing a completely different race shape.

These one-mile grass races are a true test of ability and class, and over the years the Breeders’ Cup Mile has often produced a winner almost as notable, if not more so, than the Classic victor.

An unprecedented 2020 horse racing calendar altered by the COVID-19 pandemic winds down in more familiar fashion on Nov. 6-7 at Keeneland Race Course with the 37th Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
