all in Breeders' Cup

The final major weekend of North American “Win and You’re In” Breeders’ Cup qualifiers is fast approaching, and activity will be constant – and exciting – at three U.S. racetracks as well as at Longchamp Racecourse in France. Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky., kicks off its Fall Stars weekend Friday, Oct. 4, and over three consecutive days will host eight Challenge Series races.

The commonwealth of Kentucky along with the rest of the southeastern United States is recovering from copious amounts of rain and wind following Hurricane Helene’s path through the region – but the inclement weather departed in time for the start of one of central Kentucky’s most beloved traditions, the opening of Keeneland Race Course’s fall meet.

The fields for the 14 races that comprise the Breeders’ Cup World Championships really begin to come into focus in summer and fall. This regular feature will offer a snapshot profile of one of the previous weekend’s standout stars, usually a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” Challenge Series winner, and whether I’m buying or selling their chances to win Nov. 1-2 at Del Mar.

Tom Pedulla offers takeaways from a major weekend of racing centered around the inaugural running of the $1 million California Crown Stakes presented by SirDavis American Whisky Saturday at Santa Anita Park.

You’ve heard for years that Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky., is a must-visit destination if you consider yourself a fan of Thoroughbred racing.
