The Juddmonte Spinster Stakes at Keeneland Race Course on Sunday has drawn a five-horse field of fillies and mares headlined by leading 3-year-old filly Counting Stars. That three-time graded stakes winner will face off against four prominent older fillies and mares going 1 1/8 miles on the main track.

Few races from coast to coast have had as strong a historical impact on the Breeders’ Cup World Championships as the Spinster Stakes has had on the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. The race was a key prep race for horses the likes of Princess Rooney (1984), Sacahuista (1987), Bayakoa (1989, 1990), Inside Information (1995), Blue Prize (2019), and Malathaat (2022), who all completed the Spinster-Distaff sweep in the same year. Life’s Magic, Paseana, Spain, Unbridled Elaine, and Pleasant Home also were all next-out Distaff winners that exited the Spinster at Keeneland in their final pre-Breeders’ Cup race.

In last year’s Spinster, Gin Gin scored a huge upset atop a five-horse field that included champion 3-year-old Nitrogen and former Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna in what would be her final career race.

The 2026 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes again is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series with a “Win and You’re In” berth into the Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff going to the victress. One or more of these contenders should go on to figure prominently in the Distaff, which will be held right back at the same track and distance at Keeneland on Oct. 31. This race will be broadcast on both NBCSN and FanDuel TV, and streamed on Peacock.

1. Regaled: She’s cross-entered in Saturday’s Delaware Handicap where she would be going for a repeat of her 2025 win as the 7-2 morning-line second-choice in a big field. Regaled is winless since her Del ‘Cap win last year but she has indeed run some solid efforts in tough company in her outings since then, including when third in the 2025 Breeders’ Cup Distaff and her runner-up finish in this year’s Grade 2 Azeri Stakes at Oaklawn Park where she finished ahead of Nitrogen. She exits a second-place finish in her most recent race when beaten less than a length by Immersive in the Fasig-Tipton Fleur De Lis Stakes at Churchill Downs, so she’s right in the ballpark for what it would take to post an upset against this competition. As the lone true closer in the field, she will be trying to rally late, and she’d be the most likely beneficiary of a fast and contested pace if the front-runners get cooked up front.

2. Counting Stars: The lone 3-year-old filly in this five-horse field will face older horses for the first time in her career. She’s had a terrific 2026 campaign so far with wins in Oaklawn’s Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes and Saratoga’s Grade 1 DraftKings Acorn Stakes and Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks that have established her at or near the top of this season’s 3-year-old filly division for trainer Mark Casse. She really could put a strangle hold on a potential divisional championship with a Grade 1 win like this one against older horses. On the negative side, however, Counting Stars is coming in off a markedly subpar performance last time out in Saratoga’s Grade 1 Alabama Stakes Presented by Keeneland Sales where her third-place finish visually looked even more dull than the 1 ¾-length margin of defeat looks on paper. Perhaps the 1 ¼-mile distance of the Alabama was to blame for that recent defeat, and since Counting Stars is already proven at 1 1/8-miles, maybe this cutback in distance at Keeneland will be the key to a positive rebound on Sunday. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., who rode Counting Stars to wins in the Acorn and CCA Oaks but since was sidelined for more that a month with an ankle injury, is making his return to action at Keeneland this weekend and will have the mount.

3. Immersive: Immersive was the champion 2-year-old filly of 2024 when she won three Grade 1 races including that year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Her career in the two years since has been far less illustrious, however; still, she has been able to stay competitive in several high-class races in the distaff division. She won once in an ungraded stakes race during her shortened 3-year-old season in 2025 and thus far as a 4-year-old in 2026 has been able to come back and win June’s Fleur De Lis Stakes on a sloppy track at Churchill Downs in a victory sandwiched between losses to Bob Baffert’s red-hot Splendora in two more Grade 2 races. Jockey Jose Ortiz, who is winning Grade 1s all over the map this year, picks up the mount for perennial Keeneland fall meet leading trainer Brad Cox. Cox won back-to-back runnings of the Spinster in 2023-24 with Idiomatic. Ortiz will have Immersive up on or close to the pace all the way in the Spinster and she’ll have the best chance of the others in the field to knock off Fully Subscribed. If the track is wet, she may very well turn into the horse to beat.

4. Fully Subscribed: Fully Subscribed has followed up last year’s multiple graded stakes-winning 3-year-old campaign with two more graded stakes wins as a 4-year-old so far in 2026, plus two runner-up finishes in graded events. She comes to Keeneland off back-to-back wins at Saratoga including the Grade 2 Shuvee Stakes and the Grade 1 Personal Ensign Stakes, which she won last time by 9 ¾ lengths in a career-best performance. She earned a huge 106 Beyer Speed Figure in the Personal Ensign for trainer Chad Brown with regular rider Flavien Prat aboard. Her credentials at this 1 1/8-mile distance are imposing with all four of her graded stakes wins to date coming at this trip. There’s plenty of pace in this race with the presence of Counting Stars, Immersive, and Snowyte, and that scenario sets up Fully Subscribed for a perfect stalking trip at her ideal distance for one of the top jockey/trainer combinations in the sport. She has developed into one of the best older dirt females in racing and can solidify her status as one of the horses to beat in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff with a victory on Sunday.

JOCKEY: Flavien Prat; TRAINER: Chad Brown

5. Snowyte: Has been competing in stakes races since even before her maiden win but is still in search of her first breakthrough at the stakes level following in-the-money finishes in races like the Shuvee Stakes and Top Flight Stakes in 2026 and the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes as a 2-year-old in 2025. She exits a fourth-place finish last time in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign Stakes at Saratoga where got caught in the stretch and lost by 10 ¼ lengths to Fully Subscribed after showing her customary speed and getting out to the lead to no avail. A front-running trip will likely be her strategy again in the Spinster Stakes, but there are other speedsters entered that will prevent her from getting loose on the lead.
