Welcome to Kentucky Derby Prospect Profiles, where we take a look each week at a recent winner on the Road to the Derby schedule that offers qualifying points for the 1 ¼-mile classic race May 2, 2026, at Churchill Downs.

This week, we take a closer look at My World, the two-length winner of the $150,000 Jerome Stakes Jan. 3 at Aqueduct. My World banked 10 points and rose to 10th on the Road to the Kentucky Derby leaderboard with a win in his first start in a qualifying race.

Racing Résumé: My World extended his winning streak to three in the Jerome Stakes, with his lone defeat to date a fourth-place finish in his debut at three-quarters of a mile in August at Saratoga. He posted his second straight stakes win running one mile at Aqueduct, following his 3 ¼-length score in the Nov. 1 Nashua Stakes. In both one-turn mile dirt races he showed professionalism in his ability to break alertly from the starting gate and settle behind horses, but he also has needed some coaxing to change leads in the stretch and initiated some contact with runner-up Balboa in the Jerome.

“With each race, he's maturing mentally but it’s still like he’s not completely there,” said Dustin Dugas, a New York assistant to trainer Brad Cox. “You’ll see every time he comes by a horse; he’ll still want to lean in. Right now, he’s doing things on raw ability.”

My World defeated a quality horse in Remsen Stakes third-place finisher Balboa to win the Jerome but did not finish as fast as you’d like. He covered his final quarter-mile in :26.55 and his final eighth of a mile in :13.47, both slow closing fractions for a one-turn mile dirt race. My World did clock faster closing fractions in the Nashua with a final eighth of a mile in :12.78.

Speed Figures: My World has improved his Equibase Speed Figure in each of his four starts, earning a career-top 88 for the Jerome Stakes. Likewise, he improved his Beyer Speed Figure from a 79 for the Nashua to an 84 for the Jerome.

Running Style: My World has shown the ability to break alertly from the starting gate and settle in behind runners. He looks like a typical stalker who prefers to race just behind the pace and launch his bid approaching the stretch.

Pedigree Notes: My World is from the first crop of 2021 Belmont Stakes winner Essential Quality, the 2020 Eclipse Award winner as champion 2-year-old male and 2021 champion 3-year-old male. My World was produced by the Into Mischief mare Quebec, a stakes winner at one mile and 1 1/16 miles on the grass.

Derby Potential: My World defeated only four horses in the Nashua Stakes and three opponents in the Jerome, so it’s easy to question the quality of opposition he has defeated to date. You’d also like to see more late punch in the stretch of his two one-mile stakes wins when projecting how My World will fare when navigating longer distances. He’s a talented 3-year-old, but I’m not ready to buy My World as a major player on the Kentucky Derby trail. He needs to take a step forward in terms of speed figures, prove he can handle two turns, and finish faster in the stretch to boost his stock.
