Chanel Minnifield brought off-track Thoroughbred La Peer to the Retired Racehorse Program's 2025 Thoroughbred Makeover Oct. 8-11 at Kentucky Horse Park to compete as a hunter-jumper in the Show Hunter discipline.
Minnifield is a professional show jumper who specializes in re-training OTTBs and was paired with La Peer, aka “La La,” through the California Retirement Management Account (CARMA). She explained that the key to success in her division at the makeover is to compete at a steady, rhythmic pace while riding as cleanly as possible and that she views the Thoroughbred Makeover as the beginning, not the end, for the competitors. The key is steadily building to a long-term second career off the racetrack.
Minnifield recently published her first book, titled “Rooted & Balanced,” and is training for the 2028 Olympic Games.
