The upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend is traditionally one of the busiest in North American horse racing, and this year is no exception as major stakes races are scheduled at several tracks spanning the U.S.

A day at the races is only part of the experience that racing fans can enjoy when visiting Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The whole city is centered around Saratoga Race Course’s meet during the summer, and you can also enjoy pastimes such as casino gambling, shopping, nightlife, and of course, loads of great dining while you are in town.

One of the biggest weekends on the North American horse racing calendar is just around the corner, as Saratoga Race Course hosts the 164th running of the Travers Stakes for 3-year-olds Saturday, Aug. 26, supported by four other graded stakes on the undercard. That’s just part of a superb five-day stretch at the Spa starting on Wednesday, Aug.

The summer calendar for horse racing in North America rolls on, with the marquee event this weekend taking place north of the U.S.-Canada border when the 164th running of the King’s Plate will be held Sunday, Aug. 20, at Woodbine in Toronto, Ontario. The first jewel of Canada’s Triple Crown anchors a stellar span of racing at Woodbine that also includes six other stakes races spread over Saturday, Aug. 19 and Sunday.

This upcoming weekend, turf races take center stage on the road to the 40th annual Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
