The Horse Racing Women’s Summit (HRWS) is proud to shine a light on an esteemed group of industry women that have joined their ranks across a variety of new committees as the organization continues to grow since its inception in 2022.
Back in 2012, when I was really just getting started as a writer, I wrote a long piece for Grantland about my late father, my young son, and a history of Preakness Stakes past. It was about family, and the sport of horse racing, and the strange way sports can carry forward ghosts of the past well into the future. It was about life and death and all kinds of lofty ideas I rarely have the courage to write about anymore. At the time I wrote it, it was not all that hard to write. Trying to go back and read it today, it is nearly impossible for me to look at.
The 149th Preakness Stakes is in the books, and while connections of top 3-year-olds determine whether or not to contest the Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets on June 8, the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend promises to provide great betting opportunities for horseplayers and exciting racing for fans, with several major races on the schedule.
The weather didn’t exactly cooperate, but fans still flocked to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore May 18 for a celebratory 149th running of the Preakness Stakes. Our friends at Eclipse Sportswire were there to capture some of the fashion, food/drink, friendship, and fun – enjoy this slideshow.
NBC Sports will provide extensive coverage of the 149th Preakness Stakes Saturday from Baltimore’s Pimlico Race Course. The broadcast begins on CNBC with the Preakness undercard from 1:30-4:30 p.m. ET before shifting to NBC from 4:30-7:30 p.m. ET. Post time for the 1 3/16-mile Preakness, the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, is set for 7:01 p.m. ET.
