Laffit Pincay III grew up with horse racing as a constant companion as the son of Hall of Fame jockey and California racing icon Laffit Pincay Jr. He’s maintained that connection by forging a career in broadcasting as part of NBC Sports’ horse racing team.

Pincay is slated to appear on “The Winner’s Circle” podcast presented by America’s Best Racing in conjunction with SB Nation Radio on the morning Sept. 29 in advance of Santa Anita Park’s Super Saturday of Breeders’ Cup prep races, some of which will be broadcast on NBCSN. Get to know him in this fun Q&A.

What I do for a living: Wear makeup and talk.

What I like about Thoroughbred racing: The energy of a big crowd on a big day at any racetrack.

Best advice to someone considering becoming a Thoroughbred owner: Don’t get in for the money.

Should the Breeders’ Cup rotate from coast to coast or have a permanent home: Should absolutely rotate – too much on the line for home field advantage exclusivity. Also, it gives fans a chance to attend when the Cup heads their way.

My top three favorite racetracks in order: Santa Anita Park, Saratoga, Del Mar

My out-of-the-box idea for Thoroughbred racing: I’d like to see less of it. How about an offseason? Let the fans have a chance to miss the game. Allow for horses and horseman to get a break, recharge batteries.

Other sports/teams I follow: Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Raiders (insert joke here), Los Angeles Lakers, University of Southern California football

My favorite athletes of all time: Does my old man count? Dad, Bo Jackson, Rickey Henderson, Wayne Gretzky, Magic Johnson, Swale

Hobbies away from Thoroughbred racing: Travel, writing, hiking, fantasy sports geek.

Favorite movies: "The Godfather I and II," "Raging Bull," "The Departed." Need a good laugh? Check out Eddie Izzard’s “Dress to Kill!”

Favorite TV shows I watch: Just finished the first season of “Ozark” – highly recommended.

Favorite foods: Crave salt, not sweet. Nothing beats the breakfast burrito/pizza “cheat day” exacta.

Favorite vacation spot: Keep going back to Maui.

Favorite actor: Big Al Pacino fan.

5 websites I visit daily: Bloodhorse, Daily Racing Form, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, CNN

Accomplishments I am most proud of: Interviewing Bob Baffert and Mike Smith after Justify won the Triple Crown was pretty cool.

My philosophy on life: 1. Do unto others ...

2. If you have to think about it – don’t hit send.

Things I collect: Press credentials. And I have an AWESOME baseball card collection … somewhere.

Favorite charities: ASPCA, Greenpeace

Favorite animal other than a horse: A stupid bear that gets into our trash cans EVERY week – I’ve grown to respect his dependability.

Favorite non-Thoroughbred racing sports event I have attended: 2006 Rose Bowl (Texas vs. USC). The greatest college football game ever played, outcome notwithstanding.

Favorite month of the year: October. Breeders’ Cup preps, baseball playoffs, college/pro football in full swing.

Favorite all-time racehorse: Swale. If a family member breeds, owns, trains, rides, rubs, or hotwalks a Kentucky  Derby winner – that’s your favorite racehorse. It’s a rule.

Favorite race horse currently competing: Patch

Favorite international racing event: Haven’t attended, but I’m fascinated by Royal Ascot.

Three ways to attract more fans to the sport: 1. Steady diet of national, network television coverage.

2. Strong social media presence.

3. I’m not a marketing major and I know it sounds trite, but we have to figure out how to reach a younger demographic.

Who will win the Super Bowl this year? Kansas City Chiefs. They will acquire Earl Thomas, and Pat Mahomes will become the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl.

Last TV series you binge-watched was: “Narcos”

College or pro football: College
