It seems impossible, but summer is over: Sept. 22 is officially the first day of fall. But even if you’re not a fan of the colder weather, there are plenty of reasons to be excited for the start of autumn! Check out our top five reasons below.

1. Fall racing is so much fun.

When autumn rolls around, horse racing heats up: that’s because it’s the championship season for Thoroughbreds, as the Breeders’ Cup takes place at Churchill Downs on November 2-3. With more than $30 million on the line over the two-day extravaganza, it’s the goal of every owner, trainer, and jockey in the sport.

2. The first few weeks of fall are insanely action-packed.

As mentioned above, since the Breeders’ Cup is right around the corner, everyone’s trying to get there. That means that major tracks like Keeneland, Belmont, and Santa Anita are all packed with “Win and You’re In” races that earn the victors a berth in the Breeders’ Cup.

3. Wanna bet? Now’s the time!

If you love playing the ponies, fall is your time. Between betting promotions going on at each major racing event plus the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge, you have tons of opportunity to make a mint this autumn. If you’re not ready to take the plunge with actual cash, check out Stay Lucky, an app that lets you experience the thrill of betting without spending a dime. Plus, if you start a streak of picking winners, you can earn great prizes!

4. Fall’s the best time to be a fan.

Why’s that? Because it’s Equestricon time. Horse racing’s only fan convention coincides with Breeders’ Cup week this year, giving enthusiasts the chance to not only meet and mingle with some of the sport’s biggest stars, but also to attend the (usually) exclusive Rood and Riddle Post Position Draw on Monday, Oct. 29. Tickets are selling fast, so nab yours now! Any Equesticon ticket will get you into the building for Monday’s draw; however, for those looking for insider access, VIP tickets and Festival Insider Passes let you have an open bar, free food, plus entry to areas only accessible to Breeders’ Cup connections.

5. Fall fashion is the best track fashion.

Plaid! Animal prints! Hot Pink! Crazy tights! Berets! Fall is the time to play with your racing style and try out new trends or revive the classics. I’m all about that over-the-knee flat boot life, so bring on the crisp weather so I can wear my favorites.
