Florent Geroux

Florent Geroux won the 2014 XpressbetBreeders' Cup Sprint with Work All Week to secure his first career Grade 1 win. He took out his jockey's license in 2007 and earned his first graded stakes victory in 2010 with Dade Babe.

In 2015, Geroux won several more Grade 1 races with The Pizza Man, Her Emmynency and I'm a Chatterbox, and he captured his second Breeders' Cup victory when Catch a Glimpse won the Grade 1 Juvenile Fillies Turf. He followed that up the next day with a win on Mongolian Saturday in the TwinSpires Breeder's Cup Turf Sprint.

Geroux finished the 2015 season ranked 13th among North American jockeys by purse earnings and 32nd by winners, both career highs for him. In a solid start to 2016, Geroux won the Risen Star and Louisiana Derby on Gun Runner before finishing third in the Kentucky Derby. The duo later won the Clark Handicap and Razorback Handicap and finished second in the Dubai World Cup.

Gun Runner returned from Dubai and proved unstoppable with Geroux. The duo swept the Stephen Foster Handicap, Whitney Stakes, Woodward Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets, and Breeders' Cup Classic as Gun Runner took home Eclipse Awards as champion older male and Horse of the Year in 2017. 

Geroux kick-started his 2018 season with a win aboard Gun Runner in the $16 million Pegasus World Cup. He then swept the Grade 1 Central Bank Ashland Stakes and Longines Kentucky Oaks with Monomoy Girl. Geroux enjoyed a stellar racing season in 2018 aboard Monomoy Girl, culminating in the filly's win at Churchill Downs in the Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff.

Geroux continued his ascent into the top ranks of jockeys in 2019 and 2020, his top horses including multiple graded stakes winner and 2019 Preakness Stakes third-place finisher Owendale and multiple turf graded stakes winner Mr. Misunderstood. He also climbed back aboard Monomoy Girl after that champion missed all of 2019 and piloted her to wins in the Grade 2 Ruffian Stakes and the Grade 1 La Troienne Stakes in 2020. He also won Kentucky Derby prep races in spring 2020 aboard Ete Indien, Mr. Monomoy, and Wells Bayou and tallied his second Kentucky Oaks win aboard Shedaresthedevil. At the November Breeders' Cup, Geroux tallied his sixth and seventh wins in the World Championships with unbeaten Aunt Pearl in the Juvenile Fillies Turf and Monomoy Girl in the Longines Distaff. Monomoy Girl earned her second Distaff win and in all likelihood punched her ticket to the Racing Hall of Fame.

In the 2021 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve, Geroux finished second aboard 25-1 shot Mandaloun, for Juddmonte and Brad Cox. It was his first top-three finish in the Derby since Gun Runner in 2016. Mandaloun and Geroux also crossed the finish line second in the TVG Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park in July but were elevated to first when Hot Rod Charlie was disqualified.

Nearly 10 months after the 2021 Kentucky Derby, Geroux and the rest of Mandaloun’s connections celebrated a win in the historic race after first-place finisher Medina Spirit was disqualified by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission for a medication positive.
