The Padre began his career as a 3-year old in Ireland and won his maiden race in his first career outing at Dundalk on Jan. 29, 2025. He was then brought across the pond to race in the United States in the barn of trainer Phil D'Amato and finished second in an allowance optional claiming race at Santa Anita on June 13 before winning the La Jolla Handicap on Aug. 3 at Del Mar.

Sent off as the 0.70-1 favorite atop a five-horse field in the Del Mar Derby, The Padre took care of business with a stalking one-length victory under jockey Umberto Rispoli.
