Sibelius

Sibelius was a multiple graded stakes winner during his 4-year-old season in 2022. His first stakes victory came on Sept. 10 at Pimlico in the $100,000 Lite the Fuse Stakes at six furlongs when he went wire-to-wire in a blazing time of 1:09.1.

Following a fourth-place finish in the Grade 2 Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland on Oct. 7 and a second-place finish in the $300,000 Bet On Sunshine Stakes at Churchill Downs on Nov. 13, Sibelius was back in the winner's circle again thanks to a victory in the Grade 3 $125,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes on New Year’s Eve at Gulfstream Park.  Sibelius pressed the pace throughout, took over at the top of the stretch, and then extended to a 2 1/4-length win in a seven-furlong winning time of 1:23.04. 

Returning for a 5-year-old campaign in 2023, Sibelius maintained his good form in his first start, taking the six-furlong Pelican Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs by 1 ¼ lengths on Feb. 11. Trainer Jeremiah O’Dwyer then ambitiously shipped the gelding to Dubai for a start in the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen Sponsored by Nakheel, held at just under six furlongs. With accomplished international jockey Ryan Moore in the saddle, Sibelius sat well off of a contested early pace and rallied swiftly on the rail to post a thrilling nose victory over defending race winner Switzerland, scoring his first top-level win.

Sibelius was bred in Kentucky by the sire Not This Time out of the mare Fiery Pulpit by Pulpit.
