Shisospicy

Shisospicy won her maiden race in her first lifetime start as a 2-year-old at Gulfstream Park on Oct. 18, 2024. She broke through as a 3-year-old in 2025 starting with an allowance win at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 5. Shisospicy then scored her first career stakes win in the FanDuel Limestone Stakes on April 11 at Keeneland. Her first Graded stakes win followed shortly after when she was victorious in the Grade 3 $225,000 Mamzelle Stakes going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf on May 10 at Churchill Downs.

Trainer Jose D'Angelo next sent Shisospicy to England to compete in a Group 1 race at Ascot but the trip was unsuccessful when Shisospicy finished 15th in the Commonwealth Cup on June 20.

Things went much better for Shisospicy in her next start back on native soil at Kentucky Downs in the Grade 2 $1,867,143 AGS Music City Stakes on Sept. 6. Shisospicy fought for the early lead in the 12-horse field going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf and shook clear in front and ran on for a three-length win under jockey Irad Ortiz Jr.

Irad Ortiz retained the mount for Shisospicy’s biggest test yet in career start number nine, the $1 million, Grade 1 Prevagen Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. The five-furlong dash at Del Mar turned out to be a cakewalk for the filly, who shot immediately to the lead under an aggressive ride by Ortiz and was never challenged in a blowout 2 ½-length victory. Shisospicy gave trainer D’Angelo his first Breeders’ Cup win, one race before Bentornato gave him his second in the Cygames Sprint.

Although she raced on turf, Shisospicy was so dominant that she was honored as champion female sprinter of 2025 by Eclipse Award voters.

Kentucky-bred Shisospicy is out of the winning Into Mischief mare Mischief Galore.
