Jose Francisco D'Angelo

Trainer Jose D’Angelo earned his first graded stakes win with No More Time in the 2024 Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay Downs. D’Angelo, who took out his trainer’s license in 2017, also trained Jesus’ Team, runner-up in both the 2020 Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile and the 2021 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes.

The son of Francisco D’Angelo, himself an award-winning trainer in Venezuela, Jose D’Angelo had been successful in his native country, winning the Gran Premio Clásico Simón Bolívar, the country’s most important stakes, with Dreaming of Gold in 2014.  He moved to the U.S. in the late 2010s and based his stable in Florida, enjoying success at Gulfstream Park and shipping to other jurisdictions. 

D’Angelo’s Bentornato finished second in the 2024 Cygames Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Del Mar. A year later, the trainer broke through in a big way on Nov. 1, Championship Saturday.  First, 3-year-old filly Shisospicy dominated the Prevagen Turf Sprint, giving D’Angelo his first Breeders’ Cup. And then, one race later, Bentornato improved upon his 2024 effort by taking the Cygames Sprint, adding another World Championships race to D’Angelo’s portfolio and capping an incredible hour of excitement at the track.
