Creator finished second in four of his first five races before finally breaking through with a 7 1/4-length runaway victory on Feb. 27, 2016, at Oaklawn Park. He then made his stakes debut and finished a solid third in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes.
Trainer Steve Asmussen kept Creator on the Kentucky Derby trail after the Rebel and gray or roan colt rewarded his confidence in the $1 million Arkansas Derby. Creator charged from last to first to win the Grade 1 race and punch his ticket to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands.

After a troubled trip in an unplaced finish in the Kentucky Derby, in which he was checked and bumped hard, Creator rebounded with a powerful rally to win the Belmont Stakes in the closing strides and earn a career-defining victory.
Creator returned in late July in the Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga Race Course, where he finished a disappointing last of six.
By two-time leading sire Tapit, Creator is out of three-time Peruvian champion Morena, who finished second in three graded stakes in the U.S. and third in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign Stakes in 2009.
