#10 Tiesto: I didn’t mind this horse’s first start of 2020. Off of a fourth-month break, Tiesto returned in late February in turf stakes at Gulfstream Park. Although he drew the rail, jockey Junior Alvarado decided to pull out into the clear with him. That move resulted in Tiesto losing a considerable amount of ground, which might’ve cost him the race when you consider he was only beaten a length by a horse who sat in the two-path off of a slow pacesetter for most of the race. I’m expecting the pace to be much hotter here. If we get the kind of step forward you’d anticipate in a horse’s second start of the year, Tiesto could be primed for a big effort and get a nice setup. Trainer Bill Mott, as usual, has been sending out a lot of really sharp runners – through 15 starts at Churchill, just under half of Mott’s runners have hit the board and he’s won 20% of those races.

#7 Unaquoi: Give me a hard-trying horse from the Mid-Atlantic showing up in a turf race at Churchill Downs, and I’m in! There should be a healthy amount of speed signed up for this sprint and Unaquoi is well drawn in the eight-hole to be able to sit just off of it, hopefully in the second or third flight of the field. Not only does he come in fresh for Ollie Figgins (who hits at about 20% off the layoff), they’ve also booked Jose Ortiz to ride. Aside from a stakes try last September and non-winners of three allowance optional claiming race back in July, Unaquoi has shown up race after race. He possesses the highest late pace figure on Equibase (107.5) and the third-best last out turf Beyer Speed Figure (82). Despite the eye-opening jockey booking I think we should still get a pretty nice price on this one.
