Whirlwind Preakness Weekend With Ramiro Restrepo and Kentucky Derby Winner Mage

Spend the Preakness Stakes with Ramiro Restrepo, co-owner of 2023 Kentucky Derby winner Mage, as he let our cameras follow him throughout the day. Take a look at how his life has changed since winning the Derby and how he’s prepared during the two-week period between the Derby and the second jewel of the Triple Crown.

Restrepo began the Preakness experience by explaining that he was still processing the fact that a Thoroughbred he picked out won the most important horse race in the United States two weeks earlier at Churchill Downs. He then took viewers behind the scenes at the barn with Mage leading up to the Preakness Stakes and savored the moment with his family, which also made the trip with him to Pimlico after enjoying the Kentucky Derby win together.

Restrepo also visited with the other owners — OGMA Investments, Sterling Racing and the many shareholders with Commonwealth — conducted a few television interviews, and chatted with Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano before the big race.

While Mage did not win the Preakness, he ran willingly late to finish third behind front-running winner National Treasure and runner-up Blazing Sevens. Restrepo explained the lack of pace in the race very likely cost Mage a chance at a Triple Crown bid but the defeat did nothing to diminish what he had already accomplished.
