Uriah St. Lewis

Uriah St. Lewis came to the U.S. from Trinidad as a teenager in 1973 and was enamored with horse racing, often heading straight to the track after school. His first job was working on computers for wagering systems company AmTote International, but he and his wife eventually bought a farm in Oklahoma and moved west.

It was there that St. Lewis learned from trainer Robert Hayes and eventually took out his own training license in 1988, working at tracks like Remington Park, Blue Ribbon Downs, and Fairmount Park before returning to the East Coast and setting up shop at Parx Racing outside Philadelphia. His trainees are usally horses he owns himself.

St. Lewis' best horse to date is Discreet Lover, whom he purchased for $10,000 as a 2-year-old and has earned more than $1.3 million as of September 2018. Discreet Lover became St. Lewis' first graded stakes winner when he captured the Grade 3 Excelsior Stakes in April 2018. Discreet Lover then finished third in a pair of graded stakes over the summer before adding the Jockey Club Gold Cup to his tally in September for St. Lewis' first Grade 1 win.
