A former graded stakes-winning jockey, Ricky Courville spent his early years as a trainer based primarily in Louisiana. He earned his first win as a trainer in 2008 and built up a solid career over the next 13 years in the Mid-South region before earning national recognition for conditioning 2022 Rebel Stakes winner Un Ojo.
A former graded stakes-winning jockey, Ricky Courville spent his early years as a trainer based primarily in Louisiana. He earned his first win as a trainer in 2008 and built up a solid career over the next 13 years in the Mid-South region before earning national recognition for conditioning 2022 Rebel Stakes winner Un Ojo.
Courville initially trained Un Ojo, a gelding who lost an eye when a tree branch struck him as a yearling, for his first three races before the New York-bred was transferred to Tony Dutrow and ran twice in his home state. Returned to Courville, he posted a 75.40-1 upset in the Rebel at Oaklawn Park and earned 50 qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve. Un Ojo is Courville’s first graded stakes winner.
Courville is married to jockey Ashley Broussard.
