A New York-bred son of Laoban, Un Ojo broke his maiden in his second career start at Delta Downs in Louisiana on Nov. 5, 2021. Following a fourth-place finish in the Jean Laffite Stakes fifteen days later, Un Ojo was shipped to his home state and transferred to trainer Tony Dutrow.

Un Ojo made his 3-year-old debut, and first graded stakes start, in the Grade 3 Withers Stakes at Aqueduct on Feb. 5, 2022. Although he was no match for the impressive winner, Early Voting, he closed well to get second and earn four points on the road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.
Despite that runner-up performance, Un Ojo was sent off at 75.40-1 in his next start, the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Feb. 26. He once again made a big move from the back of the pack and got up to win by a half-length in a shocking upset. With that win, Un Ojo earned 50 more qualifying points and ensured his place in the starting gate on the first Saturday in May. It was also the first graded stakes win in the career of trainer Ricky Courville, who trained him as a 2-year-old and got him back before the Rebel.
Unfortunately, Un Ojo was removed from consideration from Derby 148 on May 2 after he suffered a foot bruise while training.
Un Ojo has only one eye, which inspired his name. "Un Ojo" means "an eye" in Spanish.
