Each week a panel of media members, horseplayers, and Breeders’ Cup World Championships officials release a poll tabulating their votes ranking the top contenders for the 2024 Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic. The results are a weekly rating of the top 10 horses in contention and are determined by each voter ranking their top 10 horses with points assigned on a descending 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.

The upcoming weekend at Saratoga Race Course is an important station on the road to the 2024 Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Year in and year out, multiple races held this weekend at the Spa are influential in cementing Breeders’ Cup plans for several horses and their connections, and there are prominent prep races held elsewhere as well over the next few days.

One of the biggest weeks of racing on the annual calendar has arrived, as Saratoga Race Course prepares for its marquee event of the summer meet on Saturday, Aug. 24. The 155th DraftKings Travers Stakes brings together several of the best 3-year-olds in training to compete for a $1.25 million purse and a great deal of prestige.

For the eighth year in a row, America’s Best Racing is challenging some of the brightest minds in horse betting to come up with their top three picks for key races every weekend leading up to the 2024 Triple Crown and then continuing through the 2024 Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The handicappers face off in what we like to call the “Big-Race Showdown.”

There was no shortage of superlatives tossed around before, during, and after the 1998 edition of the Breeders’ Cup Classic, and for good reason.

“Best field I’ve ever seen,” Seth Hancock, president of Claiborne Farm on co-owner of one of the 10 Classic runners (Arch), told BloodHorse before the race. “You put up the money and you are going to get the best of the best.”
