The $75,000 Century Mile Handicap is a high point on the racing calendar at Century Mile Racetrack outside of Edmonton, Alberta. This year’s race is set for July 11 and drew a nine-horse field, with every contender entering off a start on Century Mile’s dirt track. Century Mile offers an attractive 14.75% takeout on win-place-show bets and 15% on daily double bets.
1. Abeliefinthislivin: Won the Grade 3 Canadian Derby impressively on this track, but that was back in 2023. He hasn’t finished better than fourth in four 2026 starts and that appears to be his ceiling in this spot.
JOCKEY: Alexander Marti; TRAINER: Craig Robert Smith
2. Lucky Force: Was based at Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver through the end of 2025, and moved to Century Mile after that track closed. He finished ninth of 11 in his 2026 debut in May and will be hard pressed to make an impact here.
JOCKEY: Amadeo Perez; TRAINER: Geovani Olalde
3. Lord of Battle: Forwardly-placed runner won three of four starts in 2025 on this track, including a six-length blowout going one mile and 70 yards. Finished second to Rainbow’s Pride in his 5-year-old debut here three weeks ago and should improve in his second 2026 appearance. A win threat.
JOCKEY: Anastasios Chalaris; TRAINER: Gonzalo Anderson
4. Fireman Dan: This veteran with 50 career starts moved north from Turf Paradise a couple of months ago and has since finished first and then third in sprints. Has plenty of experience in two-turn races and can fill out the exacta or trifecta with a top effort.
JOCKEY: Brian Boodramsingh; TRAINER: Jason Coney
5. Sunbird: Another former Hastings-based horse, he usually gives a solid effort and has a win and a third in two starts on this track, both in June. If he repeats his June 6 effort – a 2 ¾-length win going six furlongs with a good speed figure – while stretching out, he can post a mild upset.
JOCKEY: Antonio Reyes; TRAINER: Geovani Olalde

6. Stonevicious: Has 45 starts under his belt and nearly upset Rainbow’s Pride in his 2026 debut May 30 when third by three-quarters of a length at odds of 28.60-1 in a sprint stakes. He finished fifth in his subsequent start, another sprint won by Rainbow’s Pride, but should relish stretching out.
JOCKEY: Kyle Carter; TRAINER: James Brown
7. Rainbow’s Pride: Comes into this race off of two wins here, defeating Lord of Battle in his most recent start. He ran well earlier this year at Tampa Bay Downs before being claimed and has taken it up a notch after relocating. He will be stretching out from sprints, however, as the 124-pound highweight in this race.
JOCKEY: Richard Balgobin; TRAINER: Craig Robert Smith
8. Stormy Blue: The third former Hastings-based runner in this race has shown little in his two starts on this track, both in May. He should be forwardly placed Saturday but his speed figures are a notch below other speedy types such as Lord of Battle.
JOCKEY: Silvino Morales; TRAINER: Barbara Heads
9. Crusher Royale: Has had a busy 4-year-old season with seven starts so far, four at Turf Paradise and three on this track, winning twice at Century Mile. Has a good stalking running style, and if he can work out a clean trip from the outside post he’s got a shot at boosting the exacta and/or trifecta payout at what should be appealing odds.
