The second weekend of racing in 2026 was relatively quiet across North America, yet still produced a handful of notable performances, as four graded stakes and a Longines Kentucky Oaks prep at Santa Anita Park took center stage.

The Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita has been a proven springboard for 3-year-olds, producing 10 Kentucky Derby winners (seven duel winners) since its inaugural running in 1935, most recently Silver Charm in 1997 and Nyquist in 2016. So Happy, a Runhappy colt from the Mark Glatt barn, kicked off his sophomore campaign with a two-length victory in this year’s San Vicente on Jan. 10 and remains undefeated from two career starts after winning his career debut in late November at Del Mar. He earned a career-best 106 Equibase Speed Figure for his win on Saturday and now ranks second in both the overall leaderboard and the 3-year-old male division with $120,000 in 2026 earnings.

With a commanding 5 ¼-length victory in Saturday’s Santa Ynez Stakes at Santa Anita, Explora surged to the top of the Road to the Kentucky Oaks leaderboard, having earned 35 total points for trainer Bob Baffert. The Santa Ynez marked Explora’s seasonal debut and first start since finishing second by three-quarters of a length in the NetJets Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Oct. 31. With $60,000 in 2026 earnings, Explora is tied for 35th overall and 10th among 3-year-old fillies.

Flavien Prat sits atop the jockey leaderboard based on North American earnings for the second straight week of the year after a five-win week that netted $238,530. Prat is winning at a tremendous 34% clip so far in 2026 with 12 wins and leads the jockey standings by nearly $100,000 over Jose Ortiz.

On the training side, Brad Cox has made a strong start to the new year, winning at 45% from 39 starts so far in 2026. Last week, Cox went 8-for-15 (53%) with a 75% in-the-money percentage good for $336,108 in earnings. Despite Cox winning over half of his starts last week, Mark Glatt topped all trainers by earnings last week with $354,300. Glatt had five wins last week including the San Vicente Stakes with So Happy and the Las Flores Stakes with Margarita Girl, and he moved into fifth on the 2026 leaderboard by earnings.
