Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella moved Brave Deb up to stakes level in her next start, entering her in the Grade 3 Surfer Girl Stakes Oct. 5 at Santa Anita Park. The filly broke from the far outside post in a field of eight and sat in second off of the early pace this time before taking over in early stretch. With Demuro in the irons, she kept challenger Scratch It at bay late to score by a length at odds of 10.90-1. It marked Demuro’s first graded stakes victory in the U.S. after many successful years overseas.
Kentucky-bred Brave Deb is out of the Street Sense mare Nora’s Joy and is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Tirupati.
