The 2024 Breeders’ Cup is fast approaching, and fields are beginning to take shape for the 14-race, two-day World Championships set for Nov. 1-2 at Del Mar.

The centerpiece event of each Breeders’ Cup is the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic, which has had its purse increased to $7 million for 2024. The 1 ¼-mile dirt test is the most important race in determining Eclipse Awards for champion older dirt male and often Horse of the Year as well. This year’s Longines Classic is expected to draw an accomplished international field, led by North America-based 3-year-old standout Fierceness, a pair of world-traveling Japanese runners in Forever Young and Ushba Tesoro, and perhaps most intriguing, Ireland-based 3-year-old City of Troy, who will be racing on dirt for the first time in the Breeders’ Cup.

In advance of the 2024 Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic, we've compiled a slideshow of the contenders with a profile image, a workout photo, and a racing photo when available to give readers a look at these outstanding athletes both when relaxing and competing. Get to know these talented horses in advance of what should be an exciting race at the Breeders’ Cup!
