Donegal Momentum

Donegal Momentum, a son of Uncle Mo owned by Jerry Crawford’s Donegal Racing, won his career debut impressively on dirt during the Belmont at the Big A meet in New York in spring 2024, taking a six-furlong sprint by 8 ¼ lengths. He then finished second in an allowance race at Belmont at the Big A and fourth in the Amsterdam Stakes at Saratoga before switching to turf. The dark bay or brown colt had immediate success, winning a Saratoga allowance and then the one-mile Gio Ponti Stakes at Belmont at the Big A in the fall, and he closed out 2024 with a very good third in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar after shipping across the country to California.

Donegal Momentum started off his 4-year-old season with a win in a one-mile allowance race on turf at Fair Grounds in March 2025, and then was moved back to dirt for a try in the Carter Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets. He was a non-threatening fifth in that seven-furlong race and was promptly returned to turf, where he finished a close second in a May allowance optional claiming race going a mile at Belmont at the Big A.

In career start number 10, Donegal Momentum broke through with his first graded stakes victory, taking the Grade 3 Poker Stakes June 5 at Saratoga during the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival. The colt broke sharply in the one-mile turf event under Javier Castellano and had plenty of stamina late to hold off a rally from Intellect and prevail by 1 ¾ lengths.

Donegal Momentum is out of the winning and stakes-placed Malibu Moon mare Moon Dash. The colt is trained by Tom Morley.
