Positano Sunset

Positano Sunset, a daughter of two-time Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Goldencents, won her third career start, a 6 ½-furlong dirt sprint, by 1 ¾ lengths Nov. 18, 2022, at Churchill Downs. That was her final start at age 2, and when she returned for a 3-year-old campaign the bay filly was tested against stakes company in two Kentucky Oaks preps at Gulfstream Park, where she finished fourth and sixth.

From then on, Positano Sunset began assembling a solid racing career competing mainly at sprint distances, in both allowance races and stakes. The Ian Wilkes trainee won three of 10 starts from April 2023 to March 2025, including the seven-furlong Audubon Oaks during summer 2023 at Ellis Park, and she also finished second in two sprint stakes during that span. On March 9, 2025 at Tampa Bay Downs, Positano Sunset made her 5-year-old debut a winning one by taking a seven-furlong allowance optional claiming race at Tampa Bay Downs.

That set her up for a breakthrough performance, which came in the Grade 1 Resolute Racing Madison Stakes April 8 at Keeneland. Sent off at odds of 14.31-1, Positano Sunset sat off of a solid early pace, split horses in midstretch, and finished strong to earn a one-length win over favorite Emery.

Kentucky-bred Positano Sunset is out of the winning Consolidator mare Gigglin’ Gal.
