Big Race Showdown: Action Heats Up at Woodbine, Churchill, Belmont Park

For the fifth year in a row, America’s Best Racing is challenging some of the brightest minds in horse betting to come up with their top three picks for key races every weekend leading up to the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The handicappers face off in what we like to call the “Big Race Showdown.”

The players’ picks will be posted here and a running bankroll will be kept to track their success all year long. Bankrolls will be tabulated on the basis of $2 exacta and $2 trifecta box bets of each player’s top three selections. We will also be keeping track of which player correctly selects the most winners.

This week's races are the $1 million Ricoh Woodbine Mile Stakes Saturday at Woodbine, a Challenge Series “Win and You’re In” qualifier for the FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile Presented by PDJF; the Jockey Club Derby Invitational Stakes on Saturday at Belmont Park, a qualifier for the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf; the Iroquois Stakes, a “Win and You’re In” qualifier at Churchill Downs for the TVG Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance; and the Pocahontas Stakes, a Churchill qualifier for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.

The Woodbine Mile on Saturday will be shown live on NBCSN as part of NBC Sports’ Breeders Cup Challenge Series Presented by America’s Best Racing. ABR also presents a “Breeders’ Cup LIVE!” show covering the Ricoh Woodbine Mile as well as other stakes races. This show will be hosted by Dan TordjmanJessica Paquette, Mike Somich, and J.D. Fox. It will be live streamed on ABR’s Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube pages.

NYRA’s horse racing shows on Fox Sports resumed this week with the kickoff of the fall calendar for “America’s Day at the Races.” The program, presented by America’s Best Racing, will debut with opening-day coverage of Belmont Park’s fall meet and Churchill Downs’ September meet. “America’s Day at the Races” runs from Thursday to Sunday this week on FS2 and FS1.
