#3 Icanceeclearlynow: This is one of three fillies making just her second career start in this race. In an effort to stay within range of the early pace in her first start, she did show some speed but couldn’t produce much in the way of a late rally. She finished sixth there but visually looked like a horse who’d fit better going longer. The horse who finished just ahead of her was one of two horses who came back out of that race to win next out. Icanceeclearlynow drops down here to an easier level of competition, stretches out (with a decent distance pedigree) and goes all-weather to turf. Trainer Catherine-Day Phillips hits at 29% rate with second time starters and 45% (off a smaller sample) dropping horses from the maiden special weight level to softer maiden claiming races.

#11 Told It All: The headliner here is #8 Mighty Heart who’ll be bidding to become the first horse in 17 years to win the Canadian Triple Crown. Taking nothing away from the horse, it’s hard not to feel like his wins in the Queen’s Plate and Prince of Wales Stakes were both pace and trip-aided. He might get another great setup and win again on Saturday but I’m inclined to take a shot with a couple of horses who seem to be headed in the right direction and who seem capable of winning at higher odds. #11 Told It All has clearly taken a dramatic step forward since being claimed by Norm McKnight a few races ago. He won a restricted stakes race two-back with ease. He then came back and finished fifth in the Toronto Cup – a field that was as deep if not deeper than this one. His Beyer Speed Figures have jumped from 65 to 74 to 81. If he jumps again and approaches the low 90s that puts him in play.
