Where to Watch/Listen: Queen's Plate Week 2020

The horse racing world like all other areas of society continues to make changes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and public health crisis. Most racetracks currently operating are doing so without spectators, and have instituted strict safety screening protocols for essential employees who are already on the grounds to provide daily care for horses. Charities are ramping up services to help track workers during these hard times, including the Race Track Chaplaincy, New York Division, while many other organizations including the Jockey Club Safety Net Foundation are redirecting resources to support medical efforts to combat the spread of the virus and support backstretch workers. (All proceeds from the Old Smoke T-shirt on sale below will go to the TJC Safety Net Foundation.)

One of the most lively weekends of racing in recent memory is completed, highlighted by Authentic’s win in the 146th Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve and the conclusion of the summer meets at Saratoga and Del Mar. This week, the action shifts north of the border to Woodbine, which will hold the 161st Queen’s Plate, the first jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown, on Saturday, Sept. 12. The other marquee event already underway is Kentucky Downs’ lucrative turf meet, which began on Labor Day and runs Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday this week.

TVG is the go-to network for live broadcasts of both Woodbine and Kentucky Downs racing, providing comprehensive coverage along with live racing from other tracks.

The Queen’s Plate will be televised in the U.S. on TVG and in Canada on TSN. In addition, America’s Best Racing will preview the race with two live streaming "Woodbine Live" shows. Hosted by ABR’s Dan Tordjman, the shows will also feature handicapping from Ashley Mailloux  (Friday), Emily Gullikson (both days), J.D. Fox (both days) and Ellis Starr (Saturday). Friday's show can be viewed on ABR’s Facebook Live, Twitter, or YouTube channels at 4 p.m. ET. Saturday's show also airs at 4 p.m. ET and can be viewed on ABR's Facebook Live, Twitter, or YouTube channels.

"La Trifecta," ABR's new live streaming show broadcast in Spanish and English, continues on Fridays. The show features analysis from Claudia Spadaro, Darwin Vizcaya and Annise Montplaisir. It’s available on ABR’s Facebook Live, Twitter, and YouTube pages and on Annise's Twitter account.

A don’t-miss highlight of this weekend’s radio coverage is "The Winner’s Circle," America’s Best Racing’s podcast presented by NYRA Bets. The show, hosted by Bram Weinstein, airs at 10 a.m. ET on Saturdays through Nov. 7 on Sports Map Radio. Subscribe to "The Winner's Circle" on Apple Podcasts to listen to archived episodes.

The Sept. 12 "Winner's Circle" guest is 2020 Kentucky Derby-winning jockey and Hall of Famer John Velazquez
