Baltimore will be the center of the racing world this Saturday, May 17, when Pimlico plays host to the second jewel of the Triple Crown, the $2 million Preakness Stakes. Here’s what you need to know before you go.

Get to Know the Horses

Each of the Triple Crown classics started as a race that was grounded in the history of its distinct location, a celebration of the sporting tradition of its region. Their union into one accomplishment came with its share of fits and starts, an evolution that was both influenced by and influential to decisions that made them the Triple Crown.

If you’re anywhere near Baltimore, Md., on Saturday, May 17, you have to get to Pimlico Race Course. Not only will Pimlico host the second leg of horse racing’s 2025 Triple Crown, it’ll be the final time that the Preakness Stakes will be held at the historic facility.

This year Pimlico Race Course and Thoroughbred racing will celebrate the 150th running of the Preakness Stakes.

After a whirlwind week in horse racing where TV viewership of the 151st Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve reached its highest mark since 1989, upcoming coverage of the sport returns to a normal level – but only briefly as the 150th Preakness Stakes is just around the corner on May 17.
