With a combined following of over 14 million on social media, influencer Griffin Johnson is eagerly venturing into a new arena as he awaits the debut of his racehorse, Sandman, on June 27 at Churchill Downs. Although this marks Johnson’s first ownership stake in a Thoroughbred, horses have always been a significant part of his life.

Not long ago, I was walking through a shedrow and stopped to congratulate the trainer on a gutsy win. They commented that the horse has a ton of try, and anytime it went off form there was a reason. 

This was something I was already noticing but hadn’t really thought to put words to or consider what, exactly, it really meant overall.  

The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will present special exhibitions celebrating the legacies of Hall of Fame members Paul Mellon and Ruffian this summer. Both exhibits open to the public on Thursday, July 11.

“We are excited to honor and share the legacies of these two outstanding Hall of Fame members,” said Jessica Cloer, the museum’s curator. “Paul Mellon and Ruffian were both tremendously impactful. These exhibits are a tribute to all they achieved and their lasting influence on the sport.”

The Jockey Club Safety Net Foundation will host its annual Fashionable Fillies Luncheon in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., at Saratoga National Golf Club on Monday, August 5, 2024.

The luncheon will honor the late Nancy C. Kelly and will welcome her sister, Fran, and nieces, Michelle and Lisa. Over the course of her 32-year career as the executive director of The Jockey Club Safety Net Foundation, Nancy helped thousands of individuals in need, totaling nearly $16 million in assistance.
